Academic Quality


Academic quality is a way of describing how well the learning opportunities available to students help them to achieve their award. It is to make sure that suitable and effectual teaching, assessment, support and learning opportunities are provided.

Quality enhancement cell in Academics:

Introduction to Quality Enhancement Cell:

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has made a policy decision to direct all Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to establish Quality Enhancement Cells (QEC). This issues guiding principle for the establishment and monitoring of QECs.

As per directions of Higher Education Commission, the Riphah Community College Gujrat (project of Riphah International University) has established Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC). The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) plays a key role in the development, monitoring and reporting of quality across the university and its academic programs. The QEC has a clearly defined mission, principles and terms of reference, defined by Higher Education Commission (HEC) which indicates the commitment of the university to continuous improvement.

Quality is an intrinsic and recognized trademark through which a foundation can ensure the upkeep and upgrade of its education. Quality is a continuous procedure of building and supporting connections by evaluating, foreseeing, and suggested needs. Through a quality education, educational standards has improved and maintained. QEC ensure the highest quality learning, teaching, curricula, research and administration in the university through the development, implementation and continuous improvement of quality and to ensure that the highest quality systems and procedures to achieve these operate.

QEC is responsible to ensure that the university's quality assurance procedures are designed to fit in with the arrangements in place nationally for maintaining and improving the quality of higher education.

Achieve academic excellence, concrete research output, innovative learning and creation of knowledge through quality inputs, procedures and practices in order to be amongst world’s top ranked institutions.

Mission of QEC:

Our QEC mission is to strive for academic excellence in education and research by implementing of quality assurance practices to meet the requirements of the stakeholders. This would be achieved by benchmarking, implementing academic standards and integrating quality assurance practices in the teaching learning process.

Objectives of QEC:

QEC is prepared to focus on quality assurance aspects of higher education:
To monitor the on-going quality, move in the university.
QEC to meet global compatibility challenges in higher education.
It is to develop a feasible and sustainable method of quality assurance in higher education area of the country.
To produce manpower that could serve the society in an efficient, effective and honest way.

Functions of QEC:

QEC performs the following salient functions working in collaboration with the Vice-Chancellor.

•A Quality Enhancement Cell should be headed by a Director who reports directly to VC of the institution. Director would communicate with the outside bodies.

•QEC would make sure that the quality and standards of the award of degrees are improved and protected.

•It is responsible for the review of quality standards and the quality of teaching and learning in each subject area.

•It is responsible for the review of academic affiliations with other institutions in terms of effective management of standards and quality of programs.

•It is responsible for defining clear and explicit standards as points of reference for the reviews to be carried out. It should also help the employees to know as to what they could expect from candidates.

•It is responsible to develop qualifications framework by setting out the attributes and abilities that can be expected from the holder of a qualification, i.e. Bachelors, Bachelor with Honors, Master’s, M. Phil., and Doctoral.

•QEC develops a program specifications; it clarify what learning outcome (knowledge, understanding, skills and other attributes) a student will develop on successfully completing a specific program.

•QEC develops quality assurance processes and methods of evaluation to make sure that the quality of provision and the standard of award of degrees are being kept up and to foster curriculum and staff development along with research and other academic activities.

•It ensures that quality assurance procedures are meeting the arrangements in place nationally for preserving and improving the quality of Higher Education.

QEC develops procedures for the following:

• Procedure for approval of new program

• Annual Monitoring & evaluation of program which includes program monitoring, Faculty monitoring, and as well as student perceptions.

• Procedure for departmental review

• Student feedback procedure

• Employer feedback procedure

• Procedure for quality assurance of Master’s, M. Phil and PhD degree programs

• Subject review procedure

• Institutional assessment procedure
